The copper pipe is soldered to copper fittings that are threaded into the outdoor j-box. The top of the loop is broken and insulated with a PVC tee and a piece of straight copper pipe holds it up. The j-box is mounted atop a piece of 1/2 inch aluminum EMT which attaches to the swingset with conventional antenna mast side-mounting brackets. (Even though my kids are grown-up, the swingset remains a convenient antenna mounting platform as well as recreation for the neighbor's little kids.) Inside the shack I use a low-noise preamp to boost the output of the loop. Using this antenna I've worked stations that I could not have heard on the inverted-L I use for transmitting.
