Radial installation

Hustler and DX Engineering both recommend an extensive radial system when the antenna is ground-mounted. A less-extensive system is still necessary when the antenna is mounted above the ground. The 30/15 meter vertical originally had eight radials installed: four quarter-wave on 30 meters, and four 10-foot for a 15 meter counterpoise (the antenna was a half-wavelength on 15 so it really didn't need to work against a radial field, but it needed something). I had several spools of surplus hookup wire so I installed 32 additional radials, bringing the total to 40. Here, they are shown loosely wrapped around the Unistrut and running off in all directions.
